your ex has NO power over you legally. he cannot tell you that he will be part of your child's life if you choose not to let him.
like your friend mimi said, he's a coward and won't take it to court because he will risk upsetting his current family.
i know you are miserable, and you want him.
i have been in that exact situation.
please stop talking to him. he is doing nothing for you but prolonging your pain.
don't read his emails, change your email address, phone number etc.
move to a town still close to your new job but further from him. get away from him.
believe me, any man who could do this to someone they said they loved is a horrible person.
you don't need any horrible people in your life.
